How much does your environment influence your success and what role can shared workspaces play in providing an environment that keeps you motivated?
There is a saying, “You become like the 5 people you hang around with the most.” Or, as James Clear mentions in his book The Atomic Habits, “Nothing sustains motivation better than belonging to a tribe, it transforms a personal quest into a shared one.” This makes perfect sense. When you are in an environment that promotes success, the feeling and the attitude will rub off on you.
How Shared Workspaces Create the Best Work Environment
Shared workspaces and the different types of people working in these spaces can inspire you to be more creative and motivated. By their very nature, shared spaces attract business people from different walks of life. This in itself means there is a plethora of knowledge and experience right on your doorstep. Most people feel more motivated to get work done in a co-working environment. When others around you are doing the same thing, it is a vibe that just can’t be created when you are sitting at home on your own. Shared spaces have been created to be vibey and bring people together, so it makes it easier to achieve work goals and objectives.
The hybrid work movement has meant that more and more people are working away from their colleagues. Companies are looking at reducing fixed overheads such as cumbersome offices. The negative side of reducing office time is the loneliness or Work from Home Fatigue that may creep in when working from home. People need to be a part of a community, so it would make sense to still be in some form of office if you are working remotely. This is especially important if you are a solopreneur, making sure that you are in an environment where you can still catch up for a chat with like-minded people, but have the privacy of an office to get work done when you need to or a boardroom to have a quick meeting.
Shared spaces are also clean spaces, with limited noise distractions. This means each day you get into the office, there is no clutter. These spaces are geared to help you concentrate on whatever the task at hand is for the day. Reliable WiFi and backup power also put your mind at ease, meaning a few less things that you need to worry about during the day.
In past blogs, I have spoken about the importance of having a destination to go to and get things done, which creates great habits. Getting up in the morning, dressing up and moving away from the places where you would socialise and spend family time just creates a better mindset and helps focus on work. Often the best habit is simply getting out of the house. Once you are in a place of work, with the surrounding community that is also working, you become more productive, with fewer distractions.
In our shared spaces, we have accountants, business owners, social media and advertising
companies, and other businesses, with lots of experience to fall back on when you need some advice, inspiration or just a chat to break the monotony that comes with some days.
